Hiring An Agent

Hiring a Buyers Agent

Almost as important as finding the perfect home is selecting the right real estate agent. According to the National Association of Realtors, (NAR), buyers tend to work with the first agent they talk with, this means they work with who ever happens to answer the phone when they call on a property.

Here are a few questions and guidelines to help you select the right agent for YOU!

Are they knowledgeable in your selected market area?

A good agent knows their limitations, and would feel strongly about referring the client to a professional Realtor in the area of choice. It has to be about you, the Client, Always.

Are they a full time Agent, available 24/7?

Many agents have a full time job and sell real estate as a second income. I am available 7 days a week.  In todays market part time service hurts you.

How long have they been licensed?

According to NAR, the average agent has 3 years or less experience. In my 20 years as a Realtor I have seen thousands of agents come and go out of this business.

Do they have references?

A professional Realtor should have a resume available for clients, covering back ground and what past clients thoughts about the agent. I carry my resume with me. I would be glad to share it.

Do they take the time to explain the buying process before you look at homes?

Whether you are a first time buyer or a veteran of relocation, state laws, selling/buying trends, economic condions, mortgage availability, all change a way a realtor must conduct business. I believe in sharing a pre purchase package with my clients prior to looking at homes. This also gives me a chance to listen, and ask questions about their wants, needs, and desires  for their new home, so I can locate the perfect home for you in the best time frame.

What length of contract do they recommend

Michigan law states that a Real Estate Agent works for the Seller until they are hired by a Buyer, (both agent and buyer must endorse a buyers contract).
